Small Android tablet as backup platform between SD cards?

In my ongoing quest to find a way to backup x3f files while on the road with something small (since iPads do not recognise the x3f-files ) and preferably cheap I was directed towards using an Android based phone as a backup platform for copying files from original SD card to backup SD card by a kind member of DPreview.

Then I suddenly remembered seeing very small Samsung tablets (like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7" version) which could also give me internet access in an emergency.

Knowing absolutely nothing about Android and still looking for the real keyboard on my wife's iPad (apparently there is none built in...) I would appreciate it very much if owners of Android based tablets and shooting X3F's could chime in.

Question: Is it possible to use an Android based tablet as a "host" copying original X3F files from source SD card unto the tablet and then from there onto a backup SD card?

Bonus question: Is extra software and/or card-reader and/or cables needed?

All input much appreciated. Thanks in advance
