Why doesn't the AE field follow the AF field?

At least on my GH2, and AFAIK on all m4/3 cameras, while the area of the image that is used for focusing can be adjusted, the area used for focusing doesn't follow it.

This seems very counter intuitive and user unfriendly to me. Why would you ever want the area in focus to be incorrectly exposed? And yes, I know about AE/AF lock, but I'm asking about the case where the focus area isn't in the center of the field.

On the GH4 you can set the focus area to be a strip, say on the left side of the field, but there seems to be no way to have that area also set the exposure.
