I think Canon is playing opossum (RE: 7D II)

The opossum is an animal when attacked fakes death. "This physiological response is involuntary (like fainting), rather than a conscious act." per Wikipedia.

I think Canon as a company is playing opossum now. Other companies, most noticeably Sony and Nikon, and also Sigma in the lens category, and to a lesser extent Tamron, etc., have been aggressively pushing out new and innovative products, but what has Canon produced in the last few years? Nothing really exciting except a few rebadged Rebels with the same old sensor.

I have been waiting for the successor to the 7D for a few years now, at this point, I've come to the realization that maybe there never was one in the pipeline and there never will be one. How else can you explain Canon's behavior -- doing nothing and saying less?

When assaulted (in a figurative sense) by other companies' innovations, it seems to me that Canon is plainly playing opossum.
