Widescreen isn't just for movies the change to the format makes for quite useful working as well. You can happily have 2 decent/large sized windows open on a widescreen format monitor..also LR works great on this too.

I found LR much more useful with a wide format than I did for the older normal 4:3 one I had.

... I also found, oddly, that it still wasn't quite wide enough for comparing 2 photos side-by-side.

In which case you'd probably be much delighted with a monitor wider than 16:9 on 1080, no? I certainly would.

That said, another reason for 1920x1080 not being suited to laptops is their screen size, which is usually limited to 14/15". That makes stuff on the screen a bit too small for comfortable working, though it's superb for viewing movies. But who buys a laptop just for movies?

Depth has been the mizzing dimenzion for long enough. But still, few are bothered with 3D.
