Quick tips for a 3D newbie

I've been wanting to try out shooting 3D for a long time.  I know the basics, but I have no idea how to actually create the images.  I can shoot two images with cameras side by side mounted on a plank, but how do I fuse the two images to create a stereo image? I have an LG 3D TV and would also love to know how I can view the image on that screen.  I would rather use the frame-packed method (rather than side-by-side or top/bottom) so as to take full advantage of the resolution.

Lastly, I use a Mac and would prefer to use something like Photoshop CS5 rather than StereoPhotoMaker which I believe is for Windows only.
