Could be, although cameras like the D7100 and EM-1 are even higher rez, plus no AA so...

Fact is with these tiny pixel pitches, a teeny bit of defocus - for instance - on these large lenses becomes SO much more apparent that one wonders whether it makes any sense to go any smaller before getting the rest of the system up to speed.  Perhaps that's why Nikon had to offer up technical notes  and recommended lenseswhen the D800's came out
