16 Mp - enough for any print size ?

Hi,

I often read that we need more resolution when the print size is larger. Given a sensor resolution, I can print until a maximum print size, otherwise I need a sensor with more resolution.

Is it so true ? 16 Mp gives a resolution higher than the eye can discern at normal viewing conditions , whatever the print size is. The viewing conditions are that you usually look at an image with an angle of view around 60 degrees.

Most sensors are now between 16Mp and 24Mp. The future breakthroughs will be less important because not visible anymore at normal viewing conditions. Even for a very large print size !!!

Would you limit the print size in function of the sensor resolution ? I think we can now print huge photos, this is not a problem.

Edit: 16Mp is a rough approximation based on the circle of confusion.  Below 16Mp, we can say that the resolution can improve IQ (again at "normal" viewing conditions)
