The future of prints

The future is paperless, that is for sure. So, why are we still shooting for print, and by that I mean obsess with megapixels?

Most monitors and TVs of today are 1080p, which means any 2 megapixel image will fill the screen, or any downsized image will look even better -- but of course 1920x1280 images are out of the question for most because they load slowly, so even smaller image size is what the web require - but we'll settle for 1920x1280 size for now.

If you're going at best to show a 1920x1280 (2 megapixels) image on the web, then why do you need 16/24/36 megapixels?
