60mm macro lens as replacement of 50 1.4G
Apr 26, 2014

Not so long ago I upgraded to D800. From my DX camera I currently use several lenses:

50 1.4 G

105 2.8 G

80-200 AF-D

I am thinking about getting new 35 1.8. But I have issue with size and weight of 105 micro lens. It does produce great photos, but since I use it mostly for static objects and not for insects (working distance is not realla a problem), I am thinking to replace it with lighter, smaller and more managable 60mm Micro lens. If I get 35mm 1.8, 60mm could probably also replace my current 50 1.4G? Currently I can get old version second hand 60mm for good price. Is photo quality from 60mm Micro comparable to 105 micro lens? According to DxO old 60mm is sharper than newer 60mm and 105mm lenses on D800?

Please share your opinions!
