When traveling how do I identify a place in a photo

I generally take lots of photos when I travel. When I return home and sort through my photos I find it difficult to remember where a particular photo was taken especially when I'm visiting a foreign country. I don't have a GPS on my camera and besides it seems like identifying the coordinates of a location would be a very labor intensive procedure and might still not tell me the name of the site where the photo was taken.

I try to take photos of signs identifying but that is not always possible. Has anyone every taken quick video clips and verbally identifying the spot?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
