That is a common misunderstanding.

At the range that I shoot resolution charts (about 1.4 metres for a 35mm focal length), the DoF at f/5.6 is 0.35 metres. How then do you explain the difference between the following crops?

I could show you a whole range of shots from the same camera "before" and "after", so it's not just a bad shot that I'm showing you. These were tripod shots; I was getting desperate!
