Help. Should I sell 70-300 VR + 85mm 1.8G for used 70-200 VR II?
Apr 24, 2014

I'm in a bit of a dilemma.

I'm thinking of how I can afford to get the 70-200 VR II. The only way I can do this is by selling some of my other lenses which the 70-200 will make obsolete. The easy choice is to ditch the 70-300 VR. It has never wowed me in sharpness, and more recently in my landscapes I've wanted better isolation and bokeh quality that the faster and higher quality lens can provide.

Now, I initially bought the 85mm 1.8G about a year ago as a cheaper way of doing this but I generally find it a weird FL and impractical for landscapes. It is of course great for portraits which I do now and then and plan to do more of in the future with wedding work. It is faster, lighter and maybe sharper than the 70-200 VRII, will I regret selling it?

Any thoughts please?
