Only an incremental improvement from basic PowerShot
8 months ago

I am a middling enthusiast who only buys a camera every three years... so my previous camera was the SX130, a very capable machine! After intensive studying of dpreview, I lighted on the new G1X Mark II. It's a great camera! Its behavior in low-light is excellent, and the AF speed is tremendously improved, the WiFi is cool, all factors in my purchase.  But my expectations of IQ were far too high.  I figured that three years from now (when I buy my next camera) a 1.5" sensor will be common, why not have it now?  So I went to Mt. Auburn cemetery in Cambridge MA (a picturesque place), set up my tripod, and ran through every setting on the camera, shooting a landscape fully wide angle.  I was truly expecting miracles from this camera, I admit, thinking the shots would be sharp and simply stunning.  They weren't, even in RAW mode (my first experience with RAW).  They were excellent, but only an incremental improvement over my SX130!  Blasphemy, you say?  User error?  I don't know.  Overall, I can't say it was worth $800.  I'm open to comments and suggestions!  Sincerely, Jon G.
