Lighting a pure white background for Clothing Photography

Hi, I am going to be shooting some clothing on a mannequin for the website of a custom clothing boutique. Now they want the background to be pure white without any shadows/etc...
So, I understand that you need lights pointing at the background to over expose it while the product/clothing is lit separately. But do you really need specialized lights for the background? Or will just any lights pointing at it that causes the white background to become overexposed work.
Aside from this, any tips about doing this type of a shoot are welcome, as this is my first time really doing any product photography, or any photography with non-natural light!
Thanks!
