Yes, of course you can use an ND filter with your 5R. Even a polarizer will give you approx. 2 stops of light loss. Try a 3 or 4 stop ND first or you can go for a 10 stop one if you want to shoot in daylight/bright light and need to slow down your SS enough to achieve water/clouds smoothing effect.

This was taken with my 5N and a 10 stop ND filter ( but be aware that the stronger the filter the more usually brownish colour cast you will get so you will need to correct your WB in PP or by shooting a grey card for reference at the scene ). I added some vignetting in PP.
