It has at least one advantage.

With my dSLR I can power it on and take a properly exposed photo in well under a second. With my Sony Nex 3n this is not possible because the CCD starts out exposed to light.

This leads to another advantage: with the dslr, the shutter is closed until you release it. With the mirrorless Nex, the shutter is open to put the preview image on the LCD. The shutter has to close prior to opening where with the dslr the shutter is already closed. There is obviously more shutter delay when you have to close before you can open.
There are advantages and disadvantages to every design decision.

I hate compromise. . .
