The V1 and V2 shoot 5 photos using Smart Selector mode (V1) and Best moment capture mode (V2).

Both only show one photo using the camera's display but the V1 saves all 5 photos to the memory card. The V2 has a menu option that lets you choose whether only the 'best' photo or all five are saved to the memory card.

So this is new on the V3 then. On the V3 you can browse through all 40 shots and select/deselect which one of the 40 you want to save (including all if you want or three or four or one, etc.)
