The end of DOF via aperture setting?

The writing has been on the wall for a while. We aren't there yet but we are getting closer. How long before a major camera maker includes a more sophisticated version of this in a quality camera?

We don't need heavy, expensive ultra fast lenses for shallow DOF. We are getting close to being able to isolate subjects via in camera software, being able to control the fall off in focus behind the subject and being able to just choose the bokeh you find appealing.

As manufacturers can already do HDR, hand held Twilight, sweep panoramas, lens correction, this should be a breeze.
