In France, you can take a photograph of a person in a public place, but if you publish it - put it on your Flickr page - without their consent you can go to gaol for one year (except for genuine news reporting etc). If you take a photograph of a person who is in a private place without their consent you can go to gaol for one year.

This is the way all countries outside the US are moving. And they are right and the US is wrong.
