Escher - now that is an interesting connotation.

That "engraved look" is just a result of the intricate brickwork in the building. It catches the light in the most beautiful, subtle way.

Architecture is really something there, both in the extremely opulent shiny tiled mosques, as in other buildings, with their mud-coloured brick and adobe walls : all have their respective flourishes.
