I purchased the Df for one reason, the D4 sensor and it's low light performance.  I can see the difference between the D800 and the Df at images taken at EV2.  I think too many people are discounting the fact that the Df has the D4 sensor when discussing the price.  Nikon designed the D4 sensor and has to charge a premium to recover it's investment in the sensor.

I actually owned a D600 (no issues) and it too compared badly with the Df when looking at images taken at ISO 12800.  I originally purchased the D600 as a backup to my D800 but it didn't really fill any of the gaps in the D800 image technology whereas the Df does.  I actually leave the D800 in the camera case unless I'm doing work that requires a lot of fine details.  I should have purchased a D800E but I wasn't sure about how the moire affect on the D800 would degrade my images.  Now that I know, I will probably get the D800s when it comes out.
