D40 wins color, D600 wins resolution

Every image comparison tells a story. The OP's point here that there's fundamentally little difference between these two images shot by two different cameras separated by 6 years of technological advancement.  To anyone save pixel peepers this is largely true.

That being said, IMHO this comparison also shows the overall colors and micro-color details are better in the D40 image.  Despite the much better acuity and resolution of the D600, the image here clearly has washed out reds and absent color detail... not unexpected given we are comparing a low density CCD sensor vs. a high density CMOS sensor.
