That sounds overly complicated for the sake of it. My iPhoto and Aperture use the exact same library. Back in the day, when Aperture didn't have all the features of iPhoto, there was a need to actually open iPhoto once in a while, but since version 3.5 a few months back, there's no reason to use iPhoto ever.
