Worth getting a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 in replacement of f/4 ??

Hi everyone

I have a Canon EF 70-200 f/4L, I got it for £400 its in mint condition, very light and easy to carry around. However recently I thought I would like to get that f/2.8 version of it and sell this one, the 2.8 version is about £750 second hand. I have used that one (haven't had a chance to shoot portraits with it), its much heavier , now I wanna know if its worth getting 2.8 for about £400 extra while its very heavy, I shoot portraits so I thought that compression and blurry of the background would be nicer with 2.8.

Thanks
