Faster lens vs sensor size

I love photography but I still find myself confused with camera jargon.  I’m leaving soon on a trip to Aruba and looking for a true “pocket-friendly” camera and with the budget I have (about $200) I’ve it narrowed down to 2, the Olympus XZ-10 vs Canon S110.

Both have similar features that I like (same zoom, manual lens ring, touchscreen LCD display) but tipping in the S110’s favor is a sensor that is slightly bigger at 1/1.7” vs 1/2.3” for the Oly, however the lens aperture range on the XZ-10 is faster at F1.8 to F2.7 versus the Canon’s F2.0-F5.9

Now how much of a difference this translates in real-life when it comes capturing and viewing images is what I would like to know.  Any inputs from the pros or from people that have used both cameras would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Canon PowerShot S110 Olympus Stylus XZ-10
