16-35mmL vs 35mmL question

I posted this in the wrong section before sorry.

I'm currently in between buying either the 35mmL and 16-35mm f2.8 for my 60D. How does the 16-35 (@35mm) measure up the 35mm as far as sharpness?

Aside from bokeh and DOF what differences could I expect from getting the 16-35?

Could I achieve equal portrait quality that the 35mm gives?

Ideally I'd like to see photos comparing the two at 35mm at f2.8 but I cannot find anything of the sort. I'm a well rounded photographer, I enjoy traveling to shoot landscapes, street photography, I also do people/portraiture (where the prime would come in handy). I use my 10-22mm a lot more than I initially intended and love it but at full zoom it doesn't really cut it for taking people photos. So I'm in a stalemate on this decision, any help would be great. Thanks!
