SX700 tests

I carried out some controlled tests on my SX700 at a range of FLs, apertures and ISO settings. On the chart board I used the innovative “coloured Es” resolution chart developed by DPR member Dr J C Brown (see http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/50706153), plus a narrowing black lines chart as used by several camera review sites. I also added other materials to the board as further tests of IQ.

Below are some comparison crops and some full sized images from the tests. All images are SOOC, with no processing.

24mm ISO series:

25mm aperture series:

750mm ISO series:

750mm apertures series (only f/6.9 and f/8.0 are available at 750mm):

Zoom range FL series:

Full images used for the FL series comparison:

I think in general it can be said that high ISO settings have a much more negative effect on general IQ than narrow apertures or changes in FL. There is however a fall-off in resolution at the corners at all FLs.

I plan to do a similar set of tests on the Panasonic ZS40 when I have it.

Ian
