Anyone DIY Fix their 24-70 Zoom Riing tightness issue?

I just purchased a used Nikon 24-70 F/2.8 for an insane price.  The focus motor and glass are immaculate and this copy is insanely sharp.  The only issue is with a tight Zoom Ring.  I have read this is a known issue with these lenses, but getting it repaired by Nikon is contentious an can cost $600.  I've seen a video on YouTube of someone self-lubricating the Helicoil drive and fixing the issue.

Has anyone one tried this solution?  Is this a way to go?  Does anyone have any actual cost numbers from a Nikon Repair?

Thanks

Al
