How will one stop make any difference at the wide end?

The DOF is already great so that does not matter plus you usually stop down most of the time.

A fast prime lens would be better and more useful than a zoom like this

If you are shooting video you do not want to zoom with a variable aperture lens. You need a fixed f-stop because exposure will change through the zoom and you will get a flickering effect that will ruin the video.
