Surprised: S100 & SX50 appear to have very similar RAW noise value

Using the DPReview Noise comparison widget, it appears that the Canon SX50 and S100 (also G15) have very similar RAW noise curves. This surprised me, as the S100 has a 1/1.7" sensor, and the SX50 has a 1/2.3" BSI sensor.

(Note: I included the G1x with it's 1.5" sensor for comparison)

Would the BSI (back side illumination) sensor account for this? Other changes in technology since the S100 sensor was developed?
