The basics of printing are using pixels per inch/dots per inch. I see your logic, but personally have never thought of printing sharpness in that way. Your LCD on-camera screen has very little to do with presenting image sharpness, and don't forget it's a jpeg representation of your output file. If you're outputting in RAW so that you can manipulate sharpness in post processing you'll see a big difference in the final image. If you work with jpeg, the image generally has in camera sharpening applied and so has limited room for up-ressing the image.
