“Picture Style” settings on Canon DLSRs

I’m progressing in my DSLR knowledge and learning (and developing preferences) for all the settings in my camera. However, I have one single setting that I’ve just left as is – Picture Setting.

Canon seems to see it as important enough to have a hard-button for it (on a 700D/T5i it’s one of the four main buttons in the circle around the “SET” button along with AF, WB & Drive Mode. I actively use the other three, but have yet to really need “Picture Style”.

Do most people set Picture Style to Automatic or Standard and just leave it? Am I missing out on a useful tool or is it more of a gimmick?

Canon EOS 700D (EOS Rebel T5i / EOS Kiss X7i)
