With the D800E and the A7r of which I have both, It seems that to really entice me they will have to go to at least 4X5 and 70-100MP or more. Which is a whole different world of slow FPS and AF but for landscape photographers a very enticing aspect which will probably not occur in my lifetime.

There are many, many, examples to show you how much of a difference large sensors make in contrast, detail, and noise, that well outweigh differences in resolution. Look at a 24MP A77 vs. a 24MP A99. Look at an 18MP Leica M9 vs. an 18MP Canon T3i.

IMO, one of the best ones to check out is a recent post here showing a Leica Summicron 35 on a NEX-7 vs. an Olympus OM 50 on an A7. Both are 24MP, but the bigger sensor made a huge difference in IQ.

But, if you're looking for FPS and AF, then, yes, medium format is not for you.

A7 with kit lens and a number of legacy lenses (mostly Canon FD)
