Your dream list is already present and available at the price points you want - if you include used cameras. I am going to insert the model names in your list and their price points.

If Nikon offered the following full-frame models, would you be happy?

12 Mpx FF, pro autofocus, 5 fps (8 fps with grip), under $1000

This is used D700 - around $1200-1400 on craigslist.

12 Mpx FF, pro body, pro autofocus, 9 fps, $1600

This is used D3 - around $2k on craigslist.

24 Mpx FF, enthusiast autofocus, 6 fps, under $2000

New D610

16 Mpx FF, enthusiast autofocus, class leading low-light sensor, 5.5 fps, $2700

New Df

36 Mpx FF, pro autofocus, class leading low-light sensor, 4 fps, under $3000

New D800

12 Mpx FF, pro body, pro autofocus, class leading low-light sensor, 9 fps, $3200

Used D3s - see them on craigslist around the same price ($3200 - $3300 - see some with high shutter counts for as low as $2900-3000).

16 Mpx FF, pro body, pro autofocus, class leading low-light sensor, 10 fps, $4400

Used D4 - goes around the price you mention (may be more toward $4500 - I see very lightly used listings at $4500)

16 Mpx FF, pro body, pro autofocus, class leading low-light sensor, 11 fps, $6500

New D4s

Looks like you should be happy camper. By putting forward your list - may be you wanted to show people the cameras they need are there already?

New at the price points like $1000 for pro autofocus, 12 MP FF, 8 fps with a grip - just not likely to happen regardless how much Nikon improves their model lineup.

You got my point.  I am a "happy camper", but I'm willing to buy used cameras which many don't like.

Of course if Nikon came out with the dream camera as proposed in this thread, I'd buy it in a second:

"16 or 24 Mpx FF, pro body, pro autofocus, huge buffer, 8 fps, $3300"

However, I'm not holding my breath hoping for Nikon to release what is basically a "D4s that is 3fps slower" for half of the price.
