UV Filter Choices Overwhelming - How to Choose?

I currently have the 17-40 f/4L, 24-70 f/2.8L, and the 100 2.8 (older version) Canon lenses. Each of the three have UV filters from different manufacturers. Don't ask me how - somehow it just happened!

So, now I'm pretty certain that I'll be purchasing a new 70-300 f/4.5-5.6L IS in the upcoming two months - assuming I get wife approval.

I just checked on Adorama.com regarding UV / skylight filters at the required 67mm. Good grief - the Hoya brand alone has eight different options, ranging from $22 - $98. That's quite a variance. Some say HD2, some EVO, some HMC NXT, some only skylight, some only UV. How the heck is a person supposed to figure out what all that means w/o spending half a lifetime on Google? And then there are B&W, Tiffen, Heliopan, Sunpack, Canon, and on and on.

Any guidance here? My head hurts……………
