I had the EF-S 60mm macro Canon, and yes, it could focus very slow.  I believe it had the limiter switch which helped, but no doubt it ran through it's long focus track and I don't see much of a difference with the Fuji 60mm I own now.  Both lenses are very very sharp too.   So the statement above is false.
