ZS40 Lens Flaring

I put my new ZS40 on a tripod before dawn today to try it out on a few night shots and got this excessive flaring around streetlights.

Has anyone else tried night photography with their ZS40 and seen this or is this abnormal?

I can't decide if it bothers me enough to return the camera, since I didn't buy it for night photography but bright lights appear in other ways. This flaring is really a shame because I was loving the camera, now I'm disappointed.
