Amy,

Any update from Pentax about duplicating the problem? Pentax should have acquired the two K-3 units that you had trouble with, if not already done so, to duplicate the problem. Duplicating the problem is the first step in troubleshooting it. I had worked with support organizations closely in the past and the killer push-back from them, when questioned why there was no progress in resolving a problem, was "not able to duplication the problem yet". Very often I had to make arrangement to get the exact faulty unit(s) for them and some times even had to send engineer on location. Maybe the place that you did your shooting is full of some unknown radio waves that can disrupt the camera's normal operation.

Hi Rick,

I heard from the tech specialist at Pentax USA a few days ago, but it was only to tell me that Japan is working on the issue. They haven't told me whether they were able to duplicate the issue or not. He did tell me he would keep me "in the loop".

It may seem unbelievable, but they never requested either of my K3 units. The first one, when I exchanged it with my local retailer, I assumed it was going back to them. But when I asked the retailer if they had requested it (they were in direct contact with him), he told me no, he would return it through his normal channels to get a credit. I was pretty dumbfounded, especially since at that time, they were telling me they couldn't reproduce the issue.

With the second K3 I didn't specifically ask, but I had the distinct feeling it was the same thing. There was nothing in the communication I saw or was CC'd on that would indicate they were getting that body back either.

I have now forwarded the specialist, along with the district sales manager, all the reports on the Pentax Forum (we're up to 59 people). I also copied it and sent it through Ricoh's support form on their website, just to cover the bases.

And unless all of Long Island is covered in unknown radio waves, I doubt that's it - LOL - I've had the problem everywhere from Brooklyn to Montauk.
