D5100 to D5300?
Mar 25, 2014

Those of you who have upgraded to the D5300 from the D5100 has it been worth it?

I am having focusing issues with some lens on my D5100 and my rangefinder goes mad if I try to use my AF-D lens on the camera so something is amiss. It is out of warranty so I think the cost of repairs is not a viable option so an upgrade is in order.

I am wondering between the D5300 and the D7100 but I like the weight of the D5100. I should say I have a D800 and a D700 and find the weight too much to carry about all day.

I have the Nikon 24-70 f2.8 lens, the Nikon 300 F4 AF-s lens, the Nikon 17-35 lens, Nikon 80-200 F2.8 lens. The main lens I would like to use apart from the 24-70 is my 300 and that the one not working well on the D5100 but works perfectly on my other cameras.

I am guessing the D7100 would drive the 300 faster but I would like the smaller 5300 on it as a light weight birding option that I can handle.
