Does using a separate button to autofocus improve the creative process?

I read about assigning a function button to auto focus and then you can compose your shot and press the main shutter button whenever you're ready to take the picture. I did make the change on my EM5  and assigned fn2 button to auto-focus and 1/2 hold the shutter for AEL, and I've just started to experiment. I like the idea of not having to hold down the shutter button to focus and then compose, but for a simple picture, making two button presses instead of one could be tedious.

I'm looking for other peoples experience or thoughts about the two button system. Does it work or interfere with the creative process?

Mike
