which one do you prefer and why?

(I'm leaning towards the 35-100 as the more practical option, but I love primes, so?!)

Cheers!

Hello,

Some posters above have suggested buying the pro-quality 75/1.8 and pairing it with the consumer-grade 40-150 for more reach.

I would personally do the exact opposite - I would buy the pro-quality 35-100 and the consumer-grade (but very good) 45/1.8 for those situations in which you want a bit of "pop".

I own the 45/1.8 already and am thinking of buying the 35-100.

The 35-100 is a workhorse lens that will deliver the goods in more situations than a prime. The 45/1.8 has a bit of magic to it, even if not as much as the 75/1.8.

The 75mm focal-length doesn't work for me. I tried the lens out for a while and decided to stick with my 45/1.8.

Another advantage of the 45/1.8 over the 75/1.8 is that it is two-thirds of a stop better in low light, according to the one-over-focal-length rule (because you only need 1/90 sec as opposed to 1/150 sec).

I'm curious if you think the 45/1.8 would be a great addition for someone like myself who already has both the 12-35/2.8 and the 35-100/2.8. I was thinking of posting my own thread but given your advice here thought I might just quickly ask as it may still be relevant to the OP. My thinking is that I have excellent zoom for those 'out and about' moments, however, adding the 45 would give me a great portrait/indoor lens for those moments when I don't really need to zoom too much to compose. Should I consider the 17 as well, or just stick with the 45 and leave well enough alone, after all I don't want to have a ton of lenses as my wife is sure to have my you know what if I keep buying stuff
