Lovin' My D800E
In Aug 2012 I decided my first DSLR would be a Nikon D800E. This was after retiring my F5 and F100 film cameras. A year earlier I was set to get a D700 but when I heard the D800 was coming out I decided to wait on its release instead.
Yeah I head all the stories of how I shouldn’t go for such a high end camera, especially having never owned a DSLR before. Then there was the left focus issue, then the "large files" and how you needed a super duper PC to handle them. I’m a system builder by the way so this one made me laugh. And then there was the very best glass theory where somehow the camera wouldn’t measure up unless you spent millions on Nikon’s very best lenses.
Ignoring all the noise and FUD I just bought the camera, used my existing lens collections, added a few along the way such as Sigma’s 35 1.4, Nikon’s 70-200 F4, and gasp… the AF-S 24-85 3.5-4.5 VRII... and enjoyed what I had.
In all the time I’ve used the D800E, along with my lightweight trusty AF-S 24-85, I’ve been extremely happy with it and haven’t looked back.
In the end I say get what you want, not what someone else tells you you need, and then go out and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
This last image was taken with a D800 which I ultimately swapped for the E. Luckily my vendor allowed me to play the 800 till the E came in.
