At what point in the creation of "abstract art" by a computer using a realistic photograph as input should the computer programmers start getting some credit? In other words when a realistic photo is turned into an abstract image where the original is not recognizable or barely recognizable? For a person to take credit for creating such an image wouldn't he have to write the computer program, otherwise strictly speaking would it be a collaboration between the photographer and the computer programmers?

Should computer generated images be called computer programmer generated images or better yet computer programmer assisted images (Thanks Rservello)?

A computer is a tool, much like a canvas or camera to create art. The computer and programmers are no more responsible for my images than the people that programmed your cameras computer and sensor are for your photos. Do you credit your camera for your photos? After all, all you did was turn some dials and push a button. All the hard work was done before you bought it right? Of course not. The art in a photo is created by the person specifically setting those settings, looking thru the eyepiece and intentionally capturing a moment in time. Technically digital photography is CGI. But I've never seen it referred as such.

OK, but the question was:

At what point in the creation of "abstract art" by a computer using a realistic photograph as input should the computer programmers start getting some credit? In other words when a realistic photo is turned into an abstract image where the original is not recognizable or barely recognizable?
