Whether you use the DC or don't use it, it's immaterial. If the two DC lenses didn't have defocus control, they would still be two of the best portrait lenses in history.

+1 on this. I rarely use the defocus control on mine but the 105mm F2 dc is simply an amazing lens. Also given it's a bombproof screwdriver lens, I'd have no concern over buying used or gray market.
