Is the 12-40mm good enough to forego 12mm, 17mm, 25mm and 45mm primes?

To the point analysis.

One thing I have noticed, and it may not be news to anyone, but compared to what I was using in the Canon realm (15-85mm, 3.5-5.6), I don't have to stop down to maybe F8 or F11 on a landscape to get detail if I don't want to. Seems that the detail is there, and this might be what you mean by sharpness. In my world, at my level, I am very happy with this feature.

Oh, I am sure that the Oly 12-40/2.8 is a significantly better lens than the Canon 15-85/3.5-5.6. And you certainly shouldn't stop it down to f/8, let alone f/11, unless you really need all the DoF you can get. In some cases, like the one exemplified below (nice shot BTW), you can make do with f/2.8 or f/4 from a DoF point of view, although f/5.6 or f/8 may sometimes be needed.
