You are right of course. My main lens would be a 500 F/4.5 and at wide open with F/4.5 I would have a problem. If you can use F/1.2 to F/1.8 or even lower, you are totally right. I would have to raise the ISO's to something I wouldn't feel comfortable with, but in your case, it makes sense.
