Hi John,

According to th manual (page 83) the ZS40/TZ60 has a feature called “Step Zoom”, which may be able to do something similar.

On that page it says: “You can set the zoom operation to allow easy visualization of the angle of view (picture angle) for the focal length of a regular fixed focal length lens (as with a 35 mm film camera). “

As usual for the Panny manuals that’s not explained very clearly, but it seems you can use the zoom lever (or alternatively the lens ring or the control dial on the back) to quickly step the zoom to different FLs.

That feature is not available on the ZS30/TZ40 so I’m not quite sure how it works. Hopefully someone who already has a ZS40/TZ60 might try that out and tell us.
