If you're debating between the SEL50F18 and SEL55F18Z...

It seems like a lot of people seem to be debating between these two lenses, despite the former being APS-C coverage, and the latter being FF coverage. Of course, this implies that they have an APS-C E-mount body, and are considering a possible upsize to an FE-mount body sometime down the line.

Consider that with reasonable usage, you will probably not lose 1/3 of the value of your SEL50F18 within a year-or-two. That's $100.

Consider that in a year-or-two, it is perfectly reasonable to expect to find a brand-new SEL55F18Z marked down by a 10% (i.e. $100), whether through the course of normal price decline, a sale, or some other special/coupon that probably isn't available to be applied to the hot-as-hotcakes SEL55F18Z right now.

The only reason to opt for the SEL55F18Z right now if you're an APS-C E-mount user is:

1) If you plan on upsizing to FE-mount very soon, by which going for the SEL55F18Z will spare you the hassle of selling then buying, or...

2) If becomes established that the SEL50F18 significantly underperforms the SEL55F18Z on an APS-C body in some attribute, such as autofocus speed on the A6000. But whether this is the case has not been established yet.
