I read this statement all the time...

And it kind of makes me sick.

In his latest blog piece "Why the Camera Industry is in the Dumper and What Can Be Done About It," Michael Reichmann proclaims that "With a phone in your pocket there's no need to carry a camera, if all you're after are shots of family and personal events."

Why do certain gear-oriented elitists take this attitude to minimize the importance of family pictures? Do they have no families of their own? Do they think family and personal events are not important, but that a picture of an iceberg somehow is? Have they deluded themselves into believing that supposed image quality somehow trumps the myriad other factors that go into producing memorable and important images?
