If you want to take DXO ratings as presenting all facts, then consider this: FE55/1.8 is t1.8. E50 probably is t2.1. So, the FE is not only with a longer and better FL for portraiture on APSc (85mm equiv), it is also faster and while being negligibly larger (the E50 is 7mm shorter than FE 55, but FE35 is 9mm shorter than E35... I doubt you noticed that E35 was that "big"?

An APSc lens won't show any advantage in size over a comparable FF lens UNLESS you consider crop factor which changes the FOV and DOF. If you were to argue that a 45-135/2.8 APSc lens would be smaller for 70-200 FF coverage, you'd have a point. But a 70-200/2.8 APSc lens won't be.

Don't look any farther... Nikon just announced 70-300/4.5-5.6 for CX format. You'd think the lens would be tiny compared to every other 70-300 lens out there which is FF considering that it is designed for a sensor 1/7 of the size?
